Serena Mehenni
Full Name: Serena Mehenni
Age: 29 at meeting Ilyuu, 33 at full removal of Ilyuu's curse
Physical Notes: She's petite and extremely short, only coming up to 5'2" or 5'3", but her attitude and demeanor makes up for what she doesn't have in height. She generally appears to be of Arab descent, but her skin is more golden in tone than anything one would see in a human. She has a small, unfilled circular tattoo between her shoulder blades. She may choose to wear a headscarf when traveling in human areas for religious reasons, but it can also help her go unnoticed and hide her species if it covers her full forehead. Most Tarka adhere to a religion that began as a combination of local beliefs with a variant of Islam, but it has since evolved into something independent of them both.
About: Serena and Ilyuu fit together into the same world and story, which occurs in an alternate version of southern Europe, the Mediterranean and northern Africa. At two points they do become a couple, so the option is there for them to be drawn as such. If Ilyuu is human it's a very tentative relationship, but after her curse is fully removed it's a bit more open. Serena will sometimes call her "Lua'arim," which roughly translates to "one who is like the little bird that must be coaxed."
Serena is deeply invested in the fate and welfare of her small Tarkine tribe, and inherited the position of Chieftain after her father passed away. Having to put down multiple challenges to her authority--including one from her younger brother--and ensure the survival of her people has taken its toll on her, giving her a harsh air and a righteous temper. Threatened by the inexorable push of human activity into north African steppe and desert territories as a result of Paotian expansion and conflict with the Khabri resistance, the Tarka attempt to hold their ground against both human armies and remain in their native lands. Despite their best efforts they slowly realize that they are fighting a losing battle, and, after a crushing defeat by the Khabrites, her people are forced to flee far into the desert. However, Serena sees one last opportunity to prevent her tribe's dissolution when she comes into contact with "Ilya," who, despite his insistence, isn't all that he appears. However, his support depends on where his fluctuating loyalties eventually come to rest, and she makes it her mission to ensure that he does not help the Paotians. However, the task is more complex than she could have imagined. And if she fails...
Art Suggestions: Trading with humans or a caravan, disguised as a human, riding a camel or horse, consulting with other Tarka in a Bedouin-style tent, in a confrontation with the Khabrites or Paotians, any sort of couple art with Ilyuu.
